John Lundeen has distinguished himself over the past 25 years through his commitment and tireless service to the Darien community, his successful career as a financial services executive and most recently as a local entrepreneur. As First Selectman, John will use this experience to address enduring Town-wide issues, such as downtown and business development, flooding and environmental responsibility, traffic and transportation, fiscal responsibility, recreational space development, and open communication.
Professionally, John has more than 20 years of experience in government and financial markets companies. He began his career in Washington, D.C., serving as a Presidential Management Intern working in the Office of Management and Budget for both the Carter and Reagan Administrations. He worked in public issues analysis and strategic planning for Aetna Life and Casualty, for Merrill Lynch in tax-exempt investment banking, and in derivative products for National Westminster Bank of the UK in its New York office. Since 1996, he has devoted himself to consulting work in the learning and development arena, teaching financial markets courses and facilitating courses in sales and communications.
John has a Masters Degree in Public Policy from Harvard University, an MA in American Studies from the University of Minnesota, and an AB in History and Literature from Harvard College.
Since he began working locally in 2005, John has become increasingly involved in local public service. Currently, as President of the Friends of Gorham's Pond, he has been actively involved with efforts to seek and then implement plans to dredge and restore Gorham's Pond and Stony Brook and the other key watersheds in Darien. Meeting with State and local officials, he has been working to help develop a feasible approach to environmental and flooding issues.
John also serves as Vice Chairman of the Darien Chamber of Commerce, where he is involved with the management and leadership of this non-profit bulwark of the local business community. He represents the DCC in communication with local planning officials, and he has been involved with reviewing the work of the Route 1 Corridor Planning project, and assessing traffic issues in Darien.
A longtime parent volunteer, John has coached youth baseball, basketball and soccer, and served as a Board Member of the Darien Babe Ruth League. He was a Boy Scout leader, serving as Cub Master of Troop 161, Assistant Scout Master of Troops 35 and 53, and as a Board Member of the Andrew Shaw Memorial Cabin.
John has lived in Darien with his wife Gael for 25 years. They have four children, Berent, Anders, Ingrid, and Kajsa, members of the Darien High School classes of 2005, 2007, 2011, and 2015, respectively.
