Currently serving on the Planning & Zoning Commission, Vickie Riccardo has broad experience as a volunteer in government and schools for the Town of Darien.
Prior to her appointment to fill a Planning & Zoning vacancy in September 2009, and election to the Commission in November 2009, Vickie served as Chairman of the Charter Revision Commission, 2006-2008. She was a member of the Darien Representative Town Meeting (RTM) for seven years, where she served as Chair of District 6 and was a member and Clerk of the Rules Committee. Vickie also served on the RTM's Planning Zoning and Housing Committee, Public Safety Committee and Town Government Structure and Administration Committee. Vickie's other civic involvement includes volunteering at Tokeneke Elementary School in publicity and as editor of the School's publications. She is also a former at-large board member of the Darien League of Women Voters. When serving as editor of the YWCA of Darien's newsletter, she received a Volunteer of the Year award.
Through her service on the RTM, Charter Revision Commission and Planning & Zoning Commission, Vickie has developed a broad understanding of the inner workings of Darien's Government. She has a special interest in assuring that the Board of Selectmen acts openly and publicly considers the fiscal, environmental and long-term consequences of its proposals and decisions. She believes that to reach the best outcomes for all of Darien's residents, we need Selectmen who respect and listen to one another with the goal of making informed, timely and financially prudent decisions.
Prior to becoming an at-home parent and retiring from the practice of law, Vickie worked as an in-house securities lawyer for the Guardian Life Insurance Company of America and for Integrated Resources Life Insurance Company. Earlier she was an associate at Manger, Kalison, Murphy & McBride, a Morristown, NJ law firm, specializing in health care, and was the corporate Law Librarian at The Prudential Life Insurance Company of America.
Vickie is a graduate of the College of William & Mary. She earned her Master of Library Science and JD degrees at Rutgers University. Vickie has lived in Darien for 16 years with her husband Donald Spencer; they have two daughters, Jocelyn and Alyssa Spencer.
