Jim was first elected to the Board of Education in 2001. He is currently the chairman of the Policy Committee and a member of the Public Information Committee.
History of Service
As an 8-year member of the Board of Education, Jim has focused his attention to the evaluation of ongoing curriculum revision, especially at the High School level, the implementation of a consistent policy of building renovation and preventative maintenance, and working with the Superintendent’s Wellness Committee to develop a comprehensive wellness policy.
Focus on Technology
Going forward, Jim will continue to monitor the integration of technology into the classroom as an integral instructional tool, ensure that building capacity issues do not compromise the class-size policy or the quality of education and ensure adequate funding for ongoing initiatives and for attracting, training and retaining excellent teachers and administrators.
Professional & Educational Experience
Jim has considerable experience in education, having been a high school teacher of history and government for 21 years in schools in California, Louisiana and Virginia. While living in Virginia, Jim served in the office of employee relations, was the coordinator of Community Use of Facilities, Director of Maintenance, and the Director of Administration of the Department of Facilities Services for the Fairfax County, VA Public Schools.
Jim has a B.A. in History from St. Edwards University and a Master’s in Education from the University of New Orleans and a J.D. from Loyola University.
Family
An ten-year resident of Darien, Jim lives in town with his wife Kerry and daughter Courtney. Jim is an active and involved member of the community and has served on the Darien High School Building Committee and is a Eucharistic Minister and a Faith Formation Instructor at St. Thomas More Church.
